The B.R.A.K.E.S. Texas Hold’Em Tournament, held Tuesday night at Ray Evernham Enterprises, was attended by many of NASCAR’s stars and was a huge success.

NASCAR drivers in attendance included: Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Aric Almirola, David Stremme, Scott Speed, Brendan Gaughan, Ron Hornaday, Matt Crafton and Dennis Setzer. Other celebrities that took their chances at the game included: Don Miller, Jimmy Spencer, Larry McReynolds, Randy LaJoie, Frank Stoddard and Rick Ren.

“The event was a lot of fun,” said B.R.A.K.E.S. Founder Doug Herbert. “We live in Charlotte and there are so many people in the motorsports industry here. We hadn’t really done an event yet that was focused on the NASCAR crowd instead of the NHRA crowd, so this was something different for us, but it worked. The event raised a lot of money that we’ll put toward getting more teens through our driving school.”

The winner of the tournament, Scott Dill, received a 50” Samsung flat screen TV courtesy of Jackson Marketing Group. Second place winner was Lindy Hornaday, wife of NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion Ron Hornaday, and placing third was Brittany Shamblen.

Pictures from the event can be viewed in the photos and videos section of the B.R.A.K.E.S. website. B.R.A.K.E.S. supporters should also visit www.gomotorbids.com, an online auction site where the foundation will auction decks of cards used during the tournament. Each deck auctioned off will include a card autographed by one of the tournament’s celebrity players.

The organizers of the tournament were pleased with the turnout as well as the generosity of participants. All funds raised from the event will go toward the B.R.A.K.E.S. Teen Pro-Active Driving School, which provides free hands-on training for teenage drivers. The organization’s next scheduled driving school is Saturday, May 15. Anyone interested in registering for the driving school can obtain more information at www.putonthebrakes.org.
