North Carolina has banned texting while driving
In June North Carolina banned texting while driving. The law goes into effect on Dec. 1, 2009 and is punishable by a $100 fine and court costs. You can read about it here.
Many are debating whether the law will be effective. Some argue that it will be difficult for officers to catch violaters and others say that the fine isn't high enough to prevent motorists from texting while driving. Others are just relieved to see the law pass, considering studies have shown a fourfold increase in the risk of serious crash involvement among drivers using a phone at the time of collison (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).
What do you think? Are you glad the ban was passed? Will this law prevent you from texting while driving? Do you think the punishment should be harsher or the fine higher? We would like to hear your thoughts on this issue!
Spots Open for Nov. 14 Driving School
Due to an overwhelming demand for the opportunity to take the free B.R.A.K.E.S. Teen Pro-Active Driving School, we have added an extra date to our 2009 schedule - Nov. 14. As of today, Monday, Nov. 2, we still have 21 spots open for the morning session (8:00am - 12:00 noon) and 10 spots open for the afternoon session (12:00 noon - 4:00pm). Also, due to a few cancellations we now have a few spots open for the Nov. 7 class (two for the morning session and five for the afternoon session). Both schools will be held at zMAX Dragway in Concord, N.C. Visit the Driving School page to learn more.
