“I’ve known Doug since 1984; he’s been a friend of mine for a long time. I used to live in Australia and during my visits to North Carolina I got to know the boys,” explains Simikic. “Moving all the way from Australia to the States and hearing of the tragedy, being an active Street Rodder and Racer myself, I knew I wanted to do something to help keep everyone safe on the streets.”

The Open House, held Nov. 14, featured 54 cars and was a huge success for High Performance World. Simikic was able to raise additional donations by conducting a 50/50 raffle and an auction at the event.

“We made announcements over the PA system about B.R.A.K.E.S. and we put it on our flyer that we were donating the proceeds to the charity,” adds Simikic. “As soon as I mentioned the charity to people they were really good about donating. They wanted to help because B.R.A.K.E.S. is trying to do something good out of a tragedy, and they’re helping other teens, other parents – and other drivers in general because they’re making the roads safer for all drivers.”
