• Driver and traffic safety education began as a concept in 1928 as part of a doctoral thesis by Albert W. Whitney. Whitney argued the idea that since so many teenagers where learning to drive, the schools had a responsibility to include driver education and safety instruction in the curriculum. Amos Neyhart, a professor at Pennsylvania State University, established the first recognized driver education curriculum program in 1934.

• It was not until 1941, that congress declared Thanksgiving as a national holiday. It was declared to be the fourth Thursday in November.
• Benjamin Franklin wanted the national bird to be a turkey
• There are three places nationwide named after the turkey; Turkey, Texas, Turkey Creek, La and Turkey N.C. There are also 16 townships around the country named “Turkey,” three of them in Kansas.
• Sarah Josepha Hale, an influential magazine editor and author created the campaign to make Thanksgiving a national holiday. Due to her efforts, in 1863 Thanksgiving was observed as a day for national thanksgiving and prayer. She was also the author of the classic nursery rhyme “Mary Had a Little Lamb.”
• Californians are the largest consumers of turkey in the United States.
